Program Description: Since its inception in 2018, the goal of the A. James Clark School of Engineering's new student onboarding program, ClarkLEAD, has been to foster an engineering community that is united, thoughtful, safe, inclusive, accountable and open to growth in order to impact society. In August of 2023, we welcomed over 900 first-year and transfer students at ClarkLEAD where they engaged in peer-facilitated conversations on topics of community, inclusive leadership and advancing inclusion in engineering design. This presentation will provide details regarding the ClarkLEAD program design process, recommendations for how to tailor onboarding curriculum for freshmen and transfer students, and a focus on the power of storytelling in student programming.
